Safety & Contraindications

Safety information

Read this before your first session.

Therabot applies real mechanical pressure to your legs. Most people can use it comfortably — but pressure therapy is not right for every body or every condition. Please read this page before your first session.

Before you start

Therabot is a wellness and recovery device. It is not a medical device, and it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

If you have any concerns about whether Therabot is appropriate for you, talk to your doctor or physical therapist before your first session. If you have any of the conditions listed below, that conversation should happen first — not after.

Talk to a medical professional first

Check with a physician before using Therabot if any of the following apply to you:

  • Abnormal sensations, such as numbness or tingling
  • Acute or severe cardiac, liver, or kidney disease
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Myositis ossificans
  • Bony prominences or exposed bony regions
  • Connective tissue disorders
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Neurologic conditions causing loss or altered sensation
  • Osteopenia or osteoporosis
  • Pacemaker, ICD, or history of embolism
  • Peripheral vascular insufficiency or disease
  • Pregnancy
  • Recent injury
  • Sensitivity to pressure
  • Skin rash, blisters, local tissue inflammation, bruises, or tumors
  • Use of medications that thin the blood or alter sensation

Do not use Therabot

Do not use the device if you have any of the following:

  • Blood circulation disorders, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), varicose veins, or recent surgery
  • Nerve damage, diabetes-related neuropathy, or fragile skin conditions
  • Fractures, open wounds, or severe swelling in the legs
  • Any other medical condition where pressure therapy is contraindicated

If you have any concern that using Therabot could cause you harm, do not use it. Contact us and we will help you sort it out.

Where Therabot may be used

✔ Legs only

Therabot is designed for the legs — calf, shin, thigh, and hamstring. That is the only intended use.

✖ Never on the head or neck

The device must never be placed around the head, neck, or throat. It is also not intended for the torso, arms, or feet.

Adults only. Therabot is for use by adults. Never allow anyone under the age of 18 to have physical access to the device, and keep it secured away from children when it is not in use.

Using it safely

  • Start low. Begin at a lower pressure level and work up. There is no prize for starting at the top.
  • Stay with it. Do not fall asleep during a session, and do not leave the device running unattended.
  • Stop any time. You can end a session instantly from the app or from the button on the bot. If anything feels wrong — sharp pain, numbness, pinching — stop immediately.
  • Skip acute injuries. Never run the device over a fresh injury, a bruise, a wound, or an area that is swollen or inflamed.
  • Bare or lightly covered skin. Keep loose clothing, cords, jewelry, and long hair clear of the device while it is moving.
  • Read the instructions. Therabot ships with additional warnings and instructions. Read and follow all of them.

Battery safety

Therabot contains lithium-ion battery cells. Damaged, misused, or improperly charged lithium-ion cells can cause fire, burns, electric shock, or explosion. Please follow these rules exactly:

  • Use only the provided or approved charger, and follow all charging instructions.
  • Do not disassemble, puncture, crush, drop, or incinerate the device, and do not expose it or its battery to impact, water, or extreme heat.
  • Do not use the device if it is damaged, swollen, leaking, unusually hot, or emitting odor or smoke.
  • Do not leave the device charging unattended, overnight, or on soft or flammable surfaces such as beds, couches, or pillows.
  • Keep it away from children and pets, and store it in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area.
  • If a battery incident occurs — smoke, fire, swelling, leakage, excessive heat — discontinue use immediately, move the device away from people and flammable materials if it is safe to do so, and contact emergency services.

Questions?

If you are not sure whether Therabot is right for your situation, ask us before you use it. We would much rather answer the question than have you guess.
